Booth Milton and Jocelyn Banyard from White Monkey Design. Booth has worked in the film industry for over thirty years, making and designing props. He also specializes in sculpture, with a special emphasis on science fiction and recycled art. Jocelyn Banyard has worked in the film and commercial industry for over thirty years, starting with washing the buckets and ending in management.

Music Production: Ableton Live Accelerator

Master Ableton Live through collaborative learning. Are you an aspiring music producer or a seasoned artist looking to up your game? Our comprehensive Ableton Live crash course is designed to unlock your creativity and transform your music production skills, whether you're a beginner or have some experience under your belt. With expert guidance, engaging content and hands-on activities, this course will ensure you gain a thorough understanding of the software and the techniques to create professional-quality music.

Course Overview

This five-week intensive course covers four in-person class sessions, each lasting two hours, at Selkirk College. Students will dive deep into Ableton Live's features, learning how to create rhythms, melodies and chord progressions, as well as record, edit and warp audio. With a strong focus on practical application, students will build a personal sound library to save their clips and ideas, facilitating the creation of full-fledged songs by the end of the course.

Students are required to bring a laptop containing an installation of Ableton Live and headphones to all in-person sessions. If needed, access a free trial of Ableton Live

All students must be comfortable using a computer and web browser.

Delivery: Hybrid, in-person and asynchronous home study. There are four two-hour in-person sessions with pre-recorded videos for home study as well as activities and live-online collaboration jams. The course spans five weeks to allow students full access and learning.

Meet the Instructor

Aaron (Spacefood) is a multi-instrumental music producer and educator from Nelson, BC. In addition to producing, recording and mastering music, he offers his knowledge of production, mixing and mastering to his students via one-on-one mentoring on Zoom. 

Aaron has taught, mixed and produced music for projects spanning genres from electronic dance, psytrance, dubstep/IDM, jazz and folk to Celtic, ambient, country and beyond. He is honoured to have produced for award-nominated artists.

Aaron’s personal brand of music (his three entangled monikers: Spacefood, Handsome Hansel and Shapeshifting Masters of Darkness) represents an avid curiosity and experimental form of recording.
