With a background in mathematics and research, Kate brings a wealth of experience to her role in ensuring student success as department head of Student Access & Support. Kate's focus is on creating an environment where every student feels supported and empowered. In this role Kate ensures that essential services such as counseling, accessibility services for students with disabilities, and learning skills development are effectively coordinated to foster student success. By advocating for student needs and providing a supportive environment, Kate plays a key role in empowering students to overcome challenges and achieve their academic and personal goals.

Kate also teaches in Academic Upgrading & Development, with a focus on math and physics, helping returning learners find their passions and get excited about their own learning journeys.

Outside of her role at the college, Kate is actively involved in various community organizations, including sitting as an elected member of Nelson City Council, RDCK Recreation Commission No. 5, and the Nelson and Area Economic Development Partnership. She's committed to fostering growth and opportunity both on and off campus. Outside of these opportunities, Kate enjoys spending time with her family. Kate also likes to be outside digging in her garden or taking a hike on one of the many local trails. You may even find her at the baseball diamond, soccer field or hockey rink, cheering on local athletes.

The best thing about working at Selkirk College, according to Kate, is the opportunity to make a real difference in students' lives. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to support students on their educational path and seeing them succeed is incredibly rewarding.
