Nelson
Founded in 1867, Nelson enjoys a scenic location on the shores of Kootenay Lake among the Selkirk Mountains.
Despite its small size, Nelson is a historically and culturally rich community; there are over three hundred and fifty designated heritage buildings that provide the backdrop for an extremely vibrant and varied arts community. Add an incredible lineup of live music and fabulous restaurants and you get a big-city feel with the benefit of small-town accessibility.
Baker Street, the heart of Nelson's downtown core, pays tribute to the community's support of local independent businesses. Instead of Chapter's, Gap, and McDonald's, you will find unique and interesting shops and restaurants owned and operated by local residents.
Nelson is also a paradise for outdoor sports enthusiasts. Award-winning terrain and abundant snow make for amazing skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and snowshoeing in the winter. As the snow melts away in the Spring, the landscape becomes a mecca for golfing, hiking, fishing, climbing, mountain biking and bird watching.
