Health and Safety
At Selkirk College, we are committed to a cooperative effort between management and workers to promote a healthy and safe work environment on all college campuses and other areas where college employees might work.
If you have any health and safety issues or concerns, please contact Peter Leach, Human Resources, Health and Safety Coordinator.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
The Selkirk College Emergency Procedures Booklet is intended to assist faculty, staff and students in responding to emergency situations that may occur on the college campuses. While the Booklet does not cover every conceivable situation, it supplies the basic information necessary to cope with most emergency situations such as:
- Emergency Contact Information
- Emergency First Aid Procedures
- Fire Prevention, Control and Emergency Evacuation
- Evacuation of Persons with Disabilites
- Bomb Threats / Suspicious Objects
- Earthquake
- Crime in Progress
Work Related Injuries
If you have sustained an injury on the job, it is important that you report the injury to your supervisor and submit details to the First Aid Attendant on campus. The First Aid Attendant will document all relevant information in the event a WorkSafe BC claim is necessary. WorkSafe BC claims are initiated by Peter Leach. For additional information on the claims process, please refer to the WorkSafe BC website.
Safety Orientation
Employees should expect to participate in an orientation with their immediate supervisor. The orientation will include topics such as WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety Programs and your rights and responsibilities as a worker.
