Bringing post-secondary education to the region for 44 years.
Founders' Day
Selkirk College had its very beginnings in 1966. Over four decades later, on October 16, 2009, the College invited those who were there in the beginning to come together in celebration of Selkirk’s founders. Nearly forty of these pioneers attended the first Founders' Day, held in the staff lounge of the Castlegar campus.
A new tradition has been established and on each October 16, we will celebrate Founders ‘ Day.
The millionth tree
Forest Technology is a program that has been part of Selkirk from the beginning and tree planting projects have been part of that program. The very first trees were planted in 1966; the millionth was planted on May 14, 2010, in a celebratory manner by the founder of the program, John Adams. Interestingly, some of those original seedlings are now 18 metres tall!
Contemporary Music and Technology program celebrates 20 years
Although Selkirk College is 44 years old, many of today’s programs were not offered in those early days. One such program is the very successful Contemporary Music and Technology program.
Music has been with us for 20 years and the faculty celebrated with a concert at Nelson’s Capitol Theatre and the release of a commemorative CD. Proceeds from the sale of the CD will go towards a scholarship available to students in that program.
