Biography of Angus Graeme

Angus GraemeAngus obtained a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of British Columbia and was employed as a professional Forester before beginning his career in post-secondary education.

He began instructing at Selkirk College in 1992 and has since remained at Selkirk College. Concurrent to being an instructor, Angus served as a Department Head and then a School Chair for the School of Renewable Resources.

In 2002, he completed a master's degree at Royal Roads University in Leadership and moved into a Dean of Instruction position, overseeing a large administrative portfolio at Selkirk College. In 2008, Angus joined the executive team in the position of Vice President, Academic and Student Development.

Since Marilyn Luscombe’s (former President) departure in December 2010, Angus has been serving as the Interim President of Selkirk College.

Angus knows that the community college plays a profoundly important role in the Canadian socio-economic landscape; one of providing accessible, relevant and compelling higher learning critical to the growth and development of a resilient civil society. He believes that learners and the community are at the centre of the work of the community college.

Angus understands that providing an accessible post-secondary education experience that is community based, that prepares talented, empowered, effective citizens for the future, and that supports innovation and creativity are at the very heart and identity of the community college.

Selkirk College has many responsibilities and commitments, now and into the future, to learners, employees and communities. In his role as President, Angus is excited to be providing service and leadership through clarity of vision and purpose, aligning people with organizational values and being a part of the joyful work of changing lives through learning. Angus is committed to addressing—decisively, directly and strategically—the continuous change that shapes the post-secondary system.

Angus and his wife Alison have lived in Nelson since 1990 and have three children. In addition to being an involved parent, he has a passion for natural history, outdoor pursuits, art, literature, writing and highland bagpiping with the Kootenay Kiltie Pipe Band.
