LTAC Terms of Reference

Preamble

Educational Technology is defined as the use of communications, media, computer, or other electronic technologies to facilitate and enhance learning, to develop and deliver educational programs, and to improve and enhance online learning systems for students and instructors.

A Structure

The Learning Technology Advisory Committee is a standing College-wide committee reporting to the Vice President, Academic and Student Development.

  1. Purpose
    To assist and make recommendations in matters relating to educational technology. Such matters include:
    1. The development and delivery of distributed learning modules/courses/ programs.
    2. Advisement on the future direction of the Distributed Learning Centre.
    3. The establishment of guidelines, standards and protocols.
    4. The development of support systems that encourage a sound pedagogical approach to learning and teaching.
    5. The identification of educational needs for instructors and other college employees.
    6. The identification and recommendation of hardware and software needs relating to learning, and teaching policies regarding the acquisition and use of such resources.
    7. The exploration and promotion of innovative uses of technology.
    8. The implication of policy on distributed learning.
    9. The identification of support/manpower need

B Membership

  1. Members shall be appointed to provide a fair cross section of the college community

    The Vice President, Academic and Student Development, Distributed Learning Centre Manager and Computer Services Manager will be ex-officio members.
  2. Members shall be appointed by the President.
  3. If a member is unable to attend, an alternate may be designated.
  4. Members shall serve two-year terms with half appointed each year. The same process will be used for appointment replacements.
  5. The number of appointed members, excluding the ex-officio members, shall be no less than eight (8) and shall not exceed twelve (12).
  6. Additional members may be appointed to the committee on an ad hoc basis, as the need may arise, to deal with issues requiring specific expertise.
  7. The Chairperson and Secretary shall be elected by the appointed members.

C Quorum

A quorum shall consist of fifty percent of the appointed members.

D Procedures

  1. Meetings
    1. Meetings shall be called by the Chairperson.
    2. The Agenda for each meeting shall be developed by the Chairperson, in consultation with the Distributed Learning Centre Manager.
    3. If the Chairperson cannot attend a meeting, he/she shall appoint an Acting Chairperson for the meeting.
    4. The Secretary shall be responsible for the recording of minutes and for distributing the minutes and agendas.
    5. Meetings shall be open to members of the college community and announced in the Grapevine.
  2. Committees
    The Chairperson may constitute ad hoc sub-committees for specific tasks.
  3. Communication
    Copies of the Committee’s agenda and minutes from meetings shall be posted electronically. The Chair of the Committee will report to Education Council on relevant matters, on an ad hoc basis.
