Ceramic Exhibition Gets KSA "Out There"
Instructors and graduates from Selkirk College’s Kootenay School of the Arts (KSA)1 will be showcasing their diverse ceramic styles at the prestigious Gallery of BC Ceramics2 on Granville Island in Vancouver, BC.
The special ceramic exhibition KSA OUT THERE will feature a wide range of virtuosity and expression from twelve professional clay artists. Each potter has submitted a representation of their high end, mid range and production styles to express their diversity in content, form, design and vision.
“This exhibition is a terrific opportunity to share the wide range of professional ceramic work being created by our family of former students and continuing faculty,” says KSA Clay Instructor, Pamela Nagley-Stevenson3. “The intention of the KSA OUT THERE exhibition is to celebrate the evolution of our individual ceramic studio practices as well as to share the excitement we feel as instructors about the excellence our young artists are achieving in the world. Although we are a small school, we maintain an emphasis on high technical standards, traditional skills and expressive originality in fine craft disciplines. We have stayed in touch with most of our graduates and we are really proud of their accomplishments.”
Participating in the display are KSA Clay Instructors Pamela Nagley-Stevenson, Garry Graham and David Lawson3, along with nine KSA Alumni. Four of the artists contributing to the show are well known potters working in the West Kootenay - Kathi Hofmann and Julia Gillmor4of Nelson, Sarah Lawless5 of Kaslo, and Robin DuPont of Winlaw. Three of the alumni are working in studios in Vancouver - Donna Partridge6, Tanis Saxby7 and Lise Kuhr8, while Samantha Dickie runs her studio out of Victoria. The twelfth potter of the show, Maggie Finlayson, is a resident artist at Anderson Ranch Studios in Colorado.
Take the opportunity to enjoy the exciting, complex and wide ranging body of new ceramic work by these artists. Visit the KSA OUT THERE exhibit at the Gallery of BC Ceramics from September 6 - September 29, or view the show online at bcpotters.com.
