The Peace Café Presents Open Mic With Aspen Switzer
The Peace Café, sponsored by Selkirk College's Mir Centre for Peace, will be hosting Selkirk College alumna and 2009 BC Interior Music Award winner, Aspen Switzer, this month at the Castle Theatre Café.
Participants are encouraged to bring their guitars, drums, harmonicas and voices and participate in a “Peace Song Sing-a-Long”! Individuals will be given the opportunity to share their favorite songs for peace, talk about why the songs are meaningful and discuss any special or memorable experiences they have had with the power of music.
“Music has a way with interconnecting with society. Every known culture on the earth has music – it unites us in a way that is meaningful and unique,” says Mir Programming Council member and Peace Studies and Nursing instructor, Randy Janzen. “This is a great opportunity to share peaceful, musical experiences and connect on a creative and inspirational level.”
This exceptional evening will be led by local singer-songwriter, Aspen Switzer.
Aspen’s second CD, “humble but bearing no apology”, (released Nov. 2008) was chosen as a finalist for three awards at the 2009 BC Interior Music Awards where she won an award for best Folk/Traditional Recording of the Year and best Roots/World Recording of the Year.
The Peace Café will take place on Tuesday, March 23, at the Castle Theatre Café (185 Columbia Ave. in Castlegar) at 7:00 pm. Song books will be provided!
The Peace Cafe is free, but pre-registration is recommended through Selkirk College Continuing Education at 250.365.7292 in Castlegar or 250.352.6601 in Nelson.
