Selkirk College Fills Hungry Bowls for Food Cupboard
Kootenay School of the Arts at Selkirk College (KSA) is all fired up over the upcoming fundraiser for the Nelson Food Cupboard Society.
The Nelson Food Cupboard Society will be hosting its 5th annual Hungry Bowls Spring Luncheon in an effort to raise funds and serve those in need. In addition to being treated to a variety of delicious food from local restaurants and other specialty food businesses, luncheon tickets include the choice of a unique, handmade, stoneware or porcelain bowl, created by students of the Clay program, faculty and alumni of KSA.
“This fundraiser has traditionally raised around $3,000 towards the purchase of nutritious food,” says Coordinator of the Nelson Food Cupboard Society, Lauren Steeg. “Approximately one third of the 800-1,000 people who benefit from this support each month are children. This event is a great way for the community to get involved in supporting its most vulnerable citizens.”
As a barrier-free emergency food service, the Nelson Food Cupboard is open three days a week to the public and strives to offer a service that treats customers with dignity and respect. The Society operates with the belief that food is a human right and trusts its customers to know what they and their families need.
The Hungry Bowls Spring Luncheon takes place on Tuesday, April 13, at the Hume Hotel in Nelson, from 12:00-2:00 pm. Tickets are $40 at the door (cash or cheque only) and include lunch, coffee or tea and a KSA bowl of your choice. Additional donations of $20 or more to the Nelson Food Cupboard Society are eligible for a charity receipt.
