Fine Woodworking students present year end show

Share/Save/Bookmark

The Selkirk College Fine Woodworking students will be presenting their 17th annual year end show, Form and Balance, at the end of May—presenting an ideal opportunity to meet talented builders of furniture and experience their unique abilities.

This year’s group of dedicated students is excited to invite everyone to see the work they have created in the last nine months. A well established event in the town of Nelson, the year end show is for anyone in the community and further afield who appreciates fine craftsmanship and innovative design.

Instructors Michael Grace and David Fraser have maintained exacting standards of workmanship for the past fifteen years and have earned the program an excellent and well deserved reputation. Through its history, the students and faculty of the program have produced hundreds of exceptional pieces and this year is no exception.

“The hard work of the students has certainly paid off this year,” says Fine Woodworking Instructor Michael Grace. “The pieces are one of a kind and beautiful—they are amazing example of local talent.”

The exhibition of projects will be on display from May 28 to 30 in Gallery 378, beneath the Craft Connection, on Baker St. in Nelson, BC. The show opens at 9:30 am Friday morning, and will continue on Saturday from 9:30 am-5:30 pm and Sunday from noon to 4:00 pm. An opening reception will take place on Friday from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm in the evening. The general public is invited to attend and admission is by donation.

The Fine Woodworking program is one of only a few programs in Canada that teaches both design principles and technical woodworking skills, which allows students to explore personal areas of interest.
