Kelli's story

Hi. My name is Kelli Stott and I am a Selkirk College alumna. I graduated from the Professional Cook program in 2010. In my first year at Selkirk I received three bursaries from various groups for exceeding expectations.

I taught cooking workshops in my community before school was even finished. And I now manage a small cafe in Nelson and am considering becoming an instructor myself.

I went from thinking I wasn't worth much to anybody because of my past, to realizing that I, like everyone else, deserved a second chance. Selkirk College, their wonderful staff and donors have showed me that.

The boost of confidence I got from having total strangers care about me and my education was amazing. Now, I tell my friends and family: “If you have a dream, go for it! There will be people out there who will help you succeed … take it from me.”
