Student Activities
Student intramural and club activities are restricted to Selkirk College student and staff. For information about general fitness classes and facility usage, check out the Recreation Schedules. No matter what you do, get out there, get some exercise, and have some fun!
Intramural Leagues
Intramural leagues are for fun and semi-competitive. Games are scheduled to run in over the Thursday lunch hour, Noon to 1:30 pm, at the Castlegar Campus. Students can sign up an entire team or ask to be put on a team. A $20.00 refundable deposit is collected when you register a team. Your deposit will be returned when your team shows up for all games.
At this time, intramural leagues are organized in:
- Dodgeball
- Volleyball
- Basketball
- Soccer
- Lacrosse
- Table Tennis
Nelson Campuses
Recreational activities for students at our Nelson campuses are coordinated by a Student Recreation and Activity Coordinator. The gymnasium and weight room are located on the Tenth Street Campus in Mary Hall. A monthly schedule for the gymnasium and weight room is posted on all Nelson campuses. In addition, other fitness classes are held throughout the week. Check bulletin boards and TV screens for fitness classes and special events.
Club Teams
Club teams participate in competitive leagues offered in the community.
Nordic Skiing
Bevan Ferreira, member of the South African National XC Ski Team, is the head coach of this new program offered at Selkirk College. Athletes wishing to participate in this program will have an incredible experience. Bevan has been racing for over 11 years and has competed at elite levels on numerous occasions. His skill development program and expertise will provide young and advanced skiers with the necessary fundamentals to excel in at all levels. To join this club, please contact Bevan Ferreira.
Cross-Country Running
Also coached by Bevan Ferreira, the XC running program will hold training sessions throughout the fall in preparation for several races. This includes the infamous Assault on the Bombi, one of the most grueling races in Canada, and the Annual Selkirk College Trail Run. To join this club, please contact Bevan Ferreira.
Ice Hockey
The Selkirk Saints men's hockey team is now a varsity program playing under the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL). The team competes against UVIC, Trinity Western, UFV, SFU, TRU and OC. See Saints Athletics for more information. Students wishing to tryout need to pre-register with Kim Verigin, Athletic and Recreation Coordinator.
Indoor/Outdoor Soccer
The club soccer team will be competing in an indoor league throughout the winter. All games are played in Trail at the Fieldhouse and normally run Sunday evenings, November - April. Depending on the interest, outdoor games will be scheduled with local community teams throughout October and November. Students wishing to participate should contact Kim Verigin, Athletic and Recreation Coordinator.

Special Events
In addition to regular intramural league play, Selkirk College Recreation services also organizes many "special events". Watch bulletin boards for fun events and yearly outings including ski days, canoe days, curling nights and trips to Ainsworth Hot Springs.
