Facilities
Selkirk College has an excellent variety of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities for use by students, staff, and community members. Most facilities are located at the main campus in Castlegar, however, Selkirk College is constantly improving its recreational offerings at other locations.
Castlegar
Indoor facilities include:
- Weight room
- Racquetball Court
- 12, 000 square foot gymnasium
- Bouldering Cave
The Cage, located on the ground floor of the Castlegar Gymnasium provides a variety of equipment on loan (heart rate monitors, frisbees, footballs, and ping pong supplies) and also offers a locker and towel service.
Outside of the campus walls, you will find a spacious soccer field, an outdoor volleyball court, and three tennis courts. In addition, many kilometres of scenic cross-country trails are available for walking, jogging, and mountain biking. Just one word of caution for trail users: please watch for wildlife! It is not uncommon to find bears, deer, and other critters enjoying our trails too.
Nelson
Indoor facilities include an 8,000 sq. ft. gymnasium and attached weight room. They are located on the Tenth Street Campus in Mary Hall, just minutes away from the other Nelson campuses by car and accessible by city bus. A monthly schedule for the gym and weight room is posted on all campuses. A variety of equipment can be signed-out for use any time (footballs, soccer balls, frisbees, hacky sacks, etc.) There are also locker and towel services available.
Outside the Silver King Campus, there are many walking and jogging trails and a great mountain bike track. Kootenay School of the Arts is located downtown close to many restaurants and businesses. The Tenth Street Campus is located just below the old Burlington Rail Trail that boasts some of the best mountain biking in the Kootenays. It is also a wonderful trail for walking and jogging.
