Selkirk College Hosts Capilano University Blues
While playing the best teams in the Nation can be a useful measuring tool to gauge how your program is progressing; sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for. Such was the case for the Selkirk College women’s volleyball team this weekend as they hosted the Capilano University Blues (ranked #4 in Canada) who easily won 3-0 on Friday and again 3-0 on Saturday.
“You desperately hope to “show up” and challenge the other team,” stated coach Joe Moreira. “But unfortunately we failed. Our initial effort was solid but Capilano quickly wore us down. Their serving beat our passers and we couldn’t compete with their play at the net.”
The Selkirk College women are still in search of a win as they head into the last third of the season. Having played against the #1 and #4 teams in the nation, their next opponent is Vancouver Island University (VIU), ranked 7th. “You don’t get many breaks in our league,” commented Moreira. “And we need to approach each match with the mind set that it is an opportunity to compete with the best. This will be our mantra as we prepare for VIU”.
Both Selkirk volleyball teams have a weekend off to prepare for the trip to Nanaimo.
