Selkirk Saints Golf Team Completes Season with 4th Place overall finish
Oct 23, 2006 - The Saints traveled to Nanaimo for the last tournament of the season with fourth place on the line. After three tournaments, Selkirk College held a slim two point lead on College of the Rockies (COTR) in the overall team aggregate standings.Led by Lee McGrath, who finished 16th overall, the Saints had just enough steam to hold off COTR and Kwantlen in order to finish fourth overall in the BCCAA.
Also competing for the Saints on the men’s side was Nash Silzer (21st), Keith Barnard (23rd) and Jamie Matheson (28th). Lisa Higgins (Castlegar) competed on the women’s side but had to withdraw due to an injury on day two.
“This caps off an excellent start to the new varsity golf program atSelkirk College,” comments Kim Verigin, Athletic Director. “We have proven that we can compete at a high level (in our first year of official competition) and that we will only get better. “
The Saints are now focusing their attention towards submitting a bid to host the 2007 CCAA Golf Nationals in Castlegar. This is a premier event which attracts colleges from across the country every October to vie for the National Championship.
