A great introduction to the many marvels of the fungi kingdom. In this fun and fact workshop, you'll learn basic mushroom structure, stages of development, myco terminology, identification techniques and information on growing your own mushrooms from a kit in your home and garden. Participants will make a planter they can take home and either expand into their own garden or put it into other garden projects.
Pest Management For Fruit Trees
This workshop will be of interest to professionals who manage fruit trees and backyard gardeners with some knowledge of horticulture. We will examine common insect and disease problems found on apples, cherries, peaches and other fruit trees. Through a group discussion, we will develop a practical management plan based on the seasonal cycle of the pest. There will be a strong focus on non-chemical methods, products acceptable for organic production as well as newer low-impact pesticides. Participants are welcome to bring samples of fruit with blemishes from insects or diseases, or plant parts showing pest damage. We will conduct a diagnostic clinic during the afternoon session.
