Everyone has an important role to play in the intervention in and prevention of sexual violence. During Sexual Violence Awareness Month at Selkirk College take Bringing in the Bystander training so that you are equipped to help.
Selkirk College aims to establish a community of responsibility as we work toward a culture change. Students and employees at the college are taking part in the Bringing in the Bystander training based on the work of Jackson Katz. This training will help participants understand the concept of bystander intervention, to be able to identify a continuum of inappropriate sexual behaviour, develop empathy for those who have experienced sexual violence and gain skills to intervene as a bystander. A bystander can play a variety of roles from simply speaking out against a lewd joke to supporting someone who has experienced sexual violence as an ally.
Bringing in the Bystander Training will be offered:
- October 11 from 11:45 to 1:15 p.m. on the Tenth Street Campus, Room P310
- October 19 from 11:15 to 12:45 p.m. on the Castlegar Campus, Room K-10
- October 25 from 11:45 to 1:15 p.m. on the Tenth Street Campus, Room P307
Everyone is welcome. No preregistration is necessary.
