Selkirk College, Attn: Harry Pringle
301 Frank Beinder Way, Castlegar BC, V1N 4L3, Canada
I have been an instructor at Selkirk College since 1997. I currently instruct Organizational Behaviour, Service of Food and Beverage Operations, Food and Beverage Cost Controls, Food Service Management, Budgeting and Entrepreneurial Training, Dining Room and Special Event Management and Supervisory Housekeeping and Maintenance.
Prior to beginning at Selkirk, I had 22 years of hospitality experience in many areas including hotels, resort properties, restaurants, golf course food and beverage operations. I have worked for Sheraton Hotels, Holiday Inn Hotels, Willows Golf and Country Club, private owners and have owned and operated restaurants and food and beverage facilities. I also operated my own consulting company working with Federated Co-op, 4H, Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council as well as many other companies.
I have been involved in numerous outside activities including the president of the Usadian Executive Association, President of Nelson Daybreak Rotary, Director and Coach of the Saskatoon Hilltop Football Club, which included a Canadian championship. I have received a NISOD teaching award and an award for Outstanding and Meritorious Service from the Selkirk College Board, and been inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame.
I have developed and promoted hands-on learning which encourages students to apply theory in a practical application. This has led Selkirk to run a successful restaurant operation and numerous student-led catering functions from 50 to 1,000 people. Clients have included Hockey Day in Canada, Rocky Mountain Rail tours, Osprey community Foundation, Rotary, Whitewater Ski Area, Minor Hockey, Minor Soccer and Selkirk College Foundation to name a few.
