Ian comes from working for Environment Canada, where for ten years he used GIS analysis in the water science division, researching into Acid rain, atmospheric Mercury, Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and reactive Nitrogen. Prior to coming to Canada in 2001, Ian lived in the Cambridge, UK following a career in medical research in the fields of vascular disease and cancer.
At Selkirk College Ian has been responsible for developing the technical part of the UAV program, and completed many UAV surveys on subjects including mapping out ski hill terrain or sensing for invasive plant species. Other exciting projects have been developing virtual reality software representations of local forested landscape, and modeling snow melt hydrology.
Outside of work Ian rides a bike or Nordic skis with hill climbs being his specialty.
