After graduating from high school in Nova Scotia, I relocated to Calgary, Alberta where I attended the University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business. I graduated there with honours from the Bachelor of Commerce Degree in General Management. In addition to this experience, I completed my last semester of the program on an international exchange at James Cook University in Cairns, Australia which helped me gain supplementary knowledge on the Tourism industry.
Upon completion of my degree I continued to travel Australia, New Zealand and Fiji before returning back to Western Canada. Upon my return I lived in a variety of communities, including Sun Peaks and Whistler, before settling into the Canadian Rockies. I worked six winter seasons in the Canadian Rockies, as well as a few summers. I began with the Lake Louise Ski Area as an Events Coordinator, moving after a few short seasons to the Event and Sponsorship Manager of Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (which at the time included Lake Louise, Fernie, Nakiska and Kimberley). When I left Lake Louise I was the Assistant Director – Marketing and Partnerships at the resort and had been for two and half years. During my summers I perused different opportunities in the tourism industry including working at an adventure booking agency in Whistler, as a wedding planner at a seaside resort in Nova Scotia, and as the Front of House Supervisor at a remote fishing lodge in the Northwest Territories.
I was offered the job at Whitewater Ski Resort as the Sales & Marketing Director in the fall of 2010 and have been lucky to settle into my life here in Nelson. I remain active in the tourism industry not only through my role at Whitewater but also as Chair of the Nelson and Kootenay Lake Tourism Board of Directors.
Continual learning is one of my life goals which is why I completed a Graduate Certificate in Professional Communications Management in 2015 and why I am excited in my new role at Selkirk College.
