Ross Klatte was born in Minneapolis and raised on a Minnesota dairy farm. He obtained a degree in journalism, worked as a newspaper reporter and in 1971 emigrated to Canada with his wife April as part of the back-to-the-land movement. Since then he has worked as a freelance book reviewer for the Calgary Herald from 1981-1995 and also wrote movie reviews for the on-line "Nelson Observer". In 2007, his book "Leaving the Farm: Memories of Another Life" was published. Recently in 2011, he was one of three finalists for the Writer's Trust of Canada's Journey Prize.
