"When I was a student, my most meaningful learnings came from the engaging conversations with fellow students and instructors. Selkirk's small classes and personal connections encourage those same conversations, helping to connect the 'what' and 'how' of a subject to the more-important 'why'." - Stephen Harris, Instructor, School of Business
Stephen brings two decades worth of senior executive experience from the public and private sector to his role as an instructor at Selkirk College. He started his career in marketing and PR management for a range of clients in the Kootenays. After a few years, Stephen took over as editor of a newspaper in Nelson. He then moved into public affairs positions in BC's health authorities before being recruited to Victoria to serve as Premier Campbell's speech writer and Director of Communications for the BC Government Caucus.
After leaving government, Stephen co-founded a high-tech startup in Victoria, helping to raise more than $2M in venture capital. In 2013, he took an exit from his position as C.O.O. at the startup and launched his own government relations and communications consultancy, working with clients in the private liquor store, forestry, high tech, and economic development sectors.
