What Students Say

Kate Tupper Alumni Graduate from Selkirk College
To be a female tradesperson you always have to be on top of your game. If I hadn’t attended Selkirk, my point of view as an artist and my practical skill level would be entirely different.
Kate Tupper, C-Level Welding, Industry and Trades Program 2004 Graduate. Owner, Spark Tart Design, Kootenays, BC.
I graduated from the Classroom and Community Support Worker program in 2010 and I am the author of “Kaleb Could Bounce”. I was born in the land down under, growing up on the East Coast of Australia in many places north and south of Sydney. Since 2008 I’ve been a permanent resident of Canada, living in Castlegar, BC,and loving the Kootenay lifestyle with my husband.
- Jody Pomeroy, Classroom and Community Support Worker Program 2010 Graduate. Currently in Australia.
It was scary to think about the difficulty of the task that was ahead of me. Yet, I decided to pursue my dream despite the obstacles. The big question I had to ask myself was “how?” The answer was that I had to find a school that could teach me both English and golf.   After a wide search, I found Selkirk College and contacted Bob Falle, chair of the School of Hospitality and Tourism. His approach was very professional, and he patiently answered all my questions.
- Can Yalcin, Golf Club Management Program 2002 Graduate. Current Golf Club Executive, Ephesus International Golf Resort, Kusadasi, Turkey.
A conversation with alumna and Selkirk College faculty member, Linda Harwood. 1. WHEN DID YOU ATTEND SELKIRK?
- Linda Harwood, University Arts and Sciences Program, Selkirk College, teaching in UAS, Castlegar, BC.
Sherry Brown-Russell, Alumni RHOT program Selkirk College
For anyone considering Selkirk’s Resort and Hotel Management program, I would say, "It’s never too late to start and education is never wasted."
- Sherry Brown-Russell, Resort & Hotel Management 2011 Graduate. Current Sales Manager, Sandman Hotel, Castlegar BC.
Whether I am in Vancouver, Calgary or even Seattle, I seem to hear about or meet a Selkirk alumnus. Students come from all over the world to attend Selkirk College and have had positive learning/life experiences.   We came from the west and the east-all the way across the country.  My academic journey started at Selkirk; it planted a lot of seeds. It was the stepping stone to my success.
- Steven Dyck, Ski Resort Operations and Management, 1991 Graduate. Current University of Alberta, School of Business as the Executive Director, Edmonton AB.
1985 Honors Diploma in Electronics Technology Alumni.  After working as a technologist in Edmonton after graduation, I attended University of Alberta and received BSc in Engineering.  In 1993, I moved to Ottawa and worked for Bell-Norther Research.
