Arrival at Vancouver Airport:
1. You will be given a declaration card on the plane, complete it before you land.
2. Follow the “Welcome to Vancouver” signs to Canada Border Services & Immigration.
Have your documents ready.
When you are directed to a booth, you will be asked a series of questions to determine your immigration status, as well as the nature of any goods you are bringing with you. Answer every question truthfully and consistently.
Do not use cell phones in the Customs area.
3. At Canada Border Services & Immigration
a. Students with study permits should follow the sign to Immigration.
b. If you are studying for 6 months or less without a study permit, proceed to passport inspection.
c. For passport inspection, wait in the lineups for the next available Canada Border Services Officer
a. Pick up all your suitcases and bags after you talk to the Canada Boarder Services officer.
b. Check the T.V. screens to find out where to pick up your bags.
c. Get a free baggage cart if you have a lot of luggage.
d. Hand your customs declaration card to the Canada Boarder Services officer.
5. Catch your next flight to Castlegar
a. Follow the sign for “Domestic Connections”.
6. Check in and Drop off your checked baggage
a. If you already have your boarding pass and baggage tags for your flight to Castlegar, drop- off your bags at the Air Canada bag belt.
b. If you do not have your boarding pass and baggage tags for your flight to Castlegar, go to level 4 to check in.
7. Go through security
8. Find your gate and catch your flight to Castlegar.
Castlegar airport pickup and settlement:
Make sure you tell the International Student Services Coordinator when you will arrive in Castlegar.
Arrange a way to get from the airport to your new home.
Homestay: Tell your homestay family when you will arrive in Castlegar. They will pick you up from the airport and assist you with setting up a Canadian bank account if you want one.
Residence: Sign up for the airport pickup and settlement service available to students living in residence in Castlegar.
This service costs $100 and provides you with a ride to your new home in Castlegar.
The friendly host will also take you grocery shopping and help you set up a bank account.
Students living in Nelson:
Book a shuttle to take you from the airport to your new home.
