Students of the Integrated Environmental Planning Technology program (IEP) at Selkirk College have received $5,000 from the City of Castlegar to help reduce waste through a composting solution at the Castlegar Campus.
For the past four years, Selkirk College’s Nursing students have visited the Village Cooperative of New Horizon (Cooporativa Nuevo Horizonte) in Guatemala as part of their efforts to gain an understanding of the social and economic determinants of health in a global context. This cooperative offers a unique opportunity for foreign students to learn about how this small group of Guatemalans has overcome tremendous odds, to collectively work for a better economic and political future.
Selkirk College’s Continuing Education department, in partnership with the Women in Post-Secondary Education Association (WPSE), recently sponsored two inspiring and exhilarating events for women of all ages and stages of their lives.
Over the years, individuals have contributed to Selkirk College’s success in numerous ways. To recognize these people, the college proudly presents Honorary Diplomas and a Distinguished Educator Award on an annual basis.
Nearly 300 students graduated from a variety of programs at Selkirk College’s Convocation Ceremony on Friday, April 24th at the Castlegar Campus. Friends, family, Selkirk staff and faculty were present to show their support for students' achievements.
Earlier this month, Selkirk College Hairdressing Students at the Silver King Campus in Nelson received a visit and practicum lesson from “Superstar Hair Challenge” winner and “Fashion Guru” (Global TV – Mondays) Anthony Crosfield. Having graduated from Selkirk’s Hairdressing program 24 years ago, Anthony now sits on the Advisory Board which helps keep the program current and up to industry standards.
