Why and how is the process changing?
The Nursing program’s admissions process and requirements are currently under review. Selkirk College will not be accepting new applications until a new admissions process is approved. We expect this to be finalized in early 2018. The process is under review to provide a more efficient and effective process for applicants and to improve student retention. We are adopting a selective process for applicants starting the program in 2020, and if space is available in the 2019 cohort. We anticipate that applicants on the current waitlist will fill the 2018 and 2019 intakes.
We appreciate your interest in the program, please monitor this website for updates.
When will the new application process be finalized?
Details of the new application process and requirements will be posted in Early 2018, or possibly sooner. Please watch the website and keep in touch with our Enrolment Officer. The Enrolment Officer can take your name, phone number and email. Information will be communicated through this list.
Will there be any changes to the number of seats in the program?
No, we will continue to welcome 32 students into the program each year.
What happens with students currently on the waitlist who have met all of the entrance requirements and for those who have not?
Students currently on the waitlist who are fully qualified will fill the intakes for 2018/2019 and 2019/2020, unless they indicate they are no longer interested in attending Selkirk College. Wait-listed students will not have to go through the new selective (competitive) admission process.
Will wait-listed students still be allowed to defer their acceptance?
Wait-listed students may be able to defer from the 2018 to the 2019 intake. However, due to changes in the admissions processes, wait-listed students will not be able to defer their acceptance beyond 2019. Wait-listed or new applicants who wish to defer their acceptance for the 2020 intake will have to start the application process over and follow the process for the new selective (competitive) admission process.
When will the new selective (competitive) process be implemented?
September 2019 for students starting the program in 2020, possibly earlier if we exhaust our waitlist. You will be notified of changes. Information will be posted on our website in the summer of 2018.
What about high school students?
High school students will be invited to apply starting in fall 2019 through the new selective (competitive) process. Watch the program website for updates.
