HEALTH SERVICES PROGRAMS
Health care is challenging and rewarding. Selkirk College’s skilled instructors will provide you with the academic, theoretical, philosophical and practical education you need to make a contribution to your community in the fields listed below.
Access to Practical Nursing: This program is under provincial revisions and will not be offered in 2011-12.
Advanced Medical Transcription / 10-month certificate (online): Offered in partnership with Trail Regional Hospital.
Gerontology / 2-year certificate (online/part-time studies): For Registered Nurses seeking specialized knowledge and training in order to effectively educate, assess and care for elderly people.
Health Care Assistant / 26-week certificate: Trains you for a career as a Residential Care Attendant, Community Health Worker and front-line care provider in a variety of community and institutional settings.
Nursing / 4-year degree: Offers Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree that is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as Registered Nurses in British Columbia’s evolving health care system.
Nursing Unit Clerk / 6-month certificate: Prepares you to work as a Nursing Unit Clerk within an acute care hospital setting. It also provides certification for employees currently working as unit clerks. See program details for potential adjustments to intake dates.
Pharmacy Technician / 11-month certificate: Provides you with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist pharmacists in hospital and community pharmacies.
Pharmacy Technician Bridging program: is 4 online modules to help current pharmacy assistants to move to becoming Regulated Pharmacy Technicians.
HUMAN SERVICES PROGRAMS
Selkirk College’s Human Services diploma and certificate programs provide the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to find employment in the field or to be successful in further study.
Join the effort to make a difference in one of the fields listed below:
Classroom and Community Support Worker (CCSW) / 9-month certificate: Prepares you to work in classrooms, and support learners as a Teaching Assistant, or people of all ages with diverse abilities.
Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) / 9-month certificate: Provides you with the knowledge, values and skills necessary to facilitate the growth and development of children from birth through school-age. See program details for possible changes in the 2011-2012 offering in ECCE.
Human Services / 2-year diploma: The first year of the Human Services two-year diploma program begins with one of the three certificate programs: Social Service Worker, Classroom and Community Support Worker or Early Childhood Care and Education. Whether your focus is on children or the elderly, this program provides instruction from a life-span perspective to increase your knowledge and employability.
Mental Health and Addictions / 10-month associate certificate (online/part-time studies): An online certificate program which may be of interest to human services workers, students and degree holders looking for work-related skills and/or credentials and nurses wishing to practice in the area of Mental Health & Addictions.
Social Service Worker (SSW) / 9-month certificate: For those with a strong desire to support others in the frontlines of building healthy communities.
