Please note: The Pharmacy Technician program at Selkirk College has submitted (January 2010) an application to the CCAPP (Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs) for accreditation of its program. This accreditation will allow students to move forward in the pursuit of the National Regulated Pharmacy Technician status in Canada.
The Pharmacy Technician program at Selkirk College is a blend of on line theory courses and face to face hands on lab classes. The program is available full time, part time and as Continuing education for Pharmacy technicians seeking to update their skills and work toward taking future pharmacy technician certification exams. Students completing all aspects of the program graduate with a Selkirk College Pharmacy Technician Program Certificate.
Full time students take pharmacy technician courses online for the first eight months of the program. The last seven weeks of semester 2 is when students come to the Selkirk College campus in Castlegar, British Columbia to get hands on training. Following the face to face lab section student’s return to their home town when possible to complete a hospital and community practicum.
Part time students take all required elements of the program over a two year period, beginning with all of the online theory courses and finishing off with the lab sections and the community and hospital practicum.
The continuing education courses from the Pharmacy technician program are taken outside of the program and do not lead to a certificate but can improve and retrain pharmacy technicians looking to update their skills.
