Kootenay School of the Arts at Selkirk College (KSA)
Kootenay School of the Arts at Selkirk College (KSA) in Nelson, BC, is dedicated to graduating students who will be able to make a living through their art and craft studio practice in Jewellery and Small Object Design, Clay, Fibre or Metal.
Our curriculum emphasizes studio skills, creativity and business practices and our faculty is made up of individuals who are practicing artists and craftspeople. Field trips, visiting instructors and opportunities to exhibit and sell work add to your student experience.
Programs at KSA
Clay (2-year diploma): Instruction is provided in a variety of traditional techniques such as hand-building, wheel, glazing and firing, along with technical, critical and design issues in contemporary ceramics and pottery.
Fibre (2-year diploma): Traditional and contemporary textile practices are learned, which include weaving, felting, dyeing, and pattern making in both wearable and non-wearable contexts.

Jewellery and Small Object Design (2-year diploma): Design and fabrication skills are emphasized along with exploration of artistic concepts through jewellery and small-scale metalsmithing projects.

Metal (1-year certificate): Ornamental and functional metal works are produced using blacksmithing, fabrication and casting skills.

Admission to Kootenay School of the Arts is based on an interview and a portfolio review. Make sure you pay special attention to the portfolio guidelines when preparing your materials.
Additionally, you must meet the general admission requirements for the college and either apply online through the Post-Secondary Application Service of British Columbia (PASBC) or by mail.
