Amy O'Neill ~ 2011 Selkirk Grad
After graduating from the University of Guelph with a bachelor’s degree in Geography, Amy migrated west to attend Selkirk College’s Recreation, Fish, and Wildlife program. Following that, she spent five years working with the BC Ministry of Forests out of Kootenay Lake district as a Research Technician. She is currently completing her Advanced Diploma in GIS and hopes to find a meaningful GIS oriented career in the West Kootenay region.
Brian Port ~ 2011 Selkirk Grad
Is a Geomatics professional with over 13 years of experience in hydrographic surveying and mapping. He has a B.Sc. in Geography from the University of Victoria and is currently enrolled in the Advanced Diploma in GIS program. Brian is cyclist, sailor, hiker, canoeist, skier and kayaker and enjoys exploring the woods, hills and waterways whenever possible.
Cris Gray ~ 2010 Selkirk Grad
Graduated with a degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of Victoria. She has worked in the wildlife research field for the past 14 years, specializing in boreal songbirds, plant identification and winter mammal snowtracking.
Daniel Chaboya ~ 2011 Selkirk Grad
Graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Forestry with a minor in Rangeland Ecology from Colorado State University. His career interests include exurban land use planning, watershed management, and natural resource management in rural communities in Latin America.
David Springer ~ 2010 Selkirk Grad
Completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry at the University of Alberta in 2007. He has since acquired a broad experience base throughout the forest industry in Western Canada.
Dylan Hackenbrook ~ 2010 Selkirk Grad
Has recently graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelors Degree in Biology. With the knowledge of GIS, he plans to work in a field related to ecology, or environmental impact assessment.
Genevieve Lepage ~ 2010 Selkirk Grad
Is a graduate of Selkirk's Forestry Program in 1999. Her last employment was for a major private land owner of the west kootenays which allowed her to be involved with all aspects of their operations; from the silviculture department to the planning department to recruiting and training of several summer students.
Hailey Monod ~ 2011 Selkirk Grad
Grew up in Banff, Alberta and has recently completed her BSc in Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria. With an interest in natural environment management and wildlife conservation she sought further education in the field of Geomatics at Selkirk College. Hailey enjoys time spent in the great outdoors, especially skiing and hiking in the mountains.
Jared Ozuk ~ 2010 Selkirk Grad
Is a Forestry Technician graduate from Sir Sandford College in Lindsay, Ontario. His interest in working with software applications and his Forestry background lead him to the Advanced Diploma in GIS at Selkirk College.
Jennifer Hutt ~ 2011 Selkirk Grad
Is a graduate of Vancouver Island University’s Forest Resource Technology Program in 2006. For the past three years she has worked as a technical specialist-silviculturalist for a consulting company based out of Lillooet. With knowledge gained from the Advanced Diploma in GIS program she hopes to further enhance her forestry career.
Justin Robinson ~ 2011 Selkirk Grad
Recently graduating from the Environmental Technology programme at Camosun College in Victoria, Justin has always been interested in cartography and looks forward to applying this interest to a career in GIS. His interests include computers (software and hardware), cartography, the outdoors, camping, films and photography.
Katie Ward ~ 2010 Selkirk Grad
Moved to the Kootenays three years ago to enroll in the Forest technology program. Katie has been working summers for the Wildfire Management Branch of the MOF for the last three years as an Initial attack crew member.
Kevin Cox ~ 2010 Selkirk Grad
Graduated from Selkirk College as a Forestry Technician. Primarily his jobs were on the engineering side including boundary layout, timber cruising, and some GPS work. He has also done some drafting for a construction company and had opportunities to teach English as a Second Language in Japan and New Zealand.
Kristen Milburn ~ 2011 Selkirk Grad
Completed a BA in Anthropology with a minor in Geography from the University of Victoria in 2005. For the past five years she has gained experience and increasing responsibility working in the accounting department of a small Victoria based company. She saw GIS as a way to combine her interests in Anthropology and Geography, and would like to further explore social science and urban planning applications using this technology.
Lisa Janssen ~ 2010 Selkirk Grad
Is a Political Science and Justice and Law Enforcement graduate from the University of Winnipeg. Her knack for organization and her strength in leadership landed her an international development partnership between CUSO and the Institute of Foreign Affairs in Vientiane, Lao PDR. Later, she took a position as Bylaw Enforcement Officer with the City of Fernie.
Melissa Mcleod ~ 2010 Selkirk Grad
Has a background and strong interest in water management and production quality control. Her main goal is to apply her experience with GIS knowledge to support and enhance natural resource best management practices.
Shala Kopp ~ 2011 Selkirk Grad
After graduating from Kwantlen University College's Environmental Protection Technology Program, has worked in consulting for 10 years performing a variety of tasks including Fish and Fish Habitat Inventories, Fisheries Data Inventory System, and Construction Monitoring.
Shannon Swayze ~ 2010 Selkirk Grad
Is also a 2008 graduate from the Recreation, Fish, and Wildlife program at Selkirk College. She has three seasons experience working as a field technician in the Kootenays, and hopes to continue to acquire further education and employment in the renewable resources field.
Steven Bougie ~ 2011 Selkirk Grad
Originally from Cornwall, Ontario, Steven ventured west in 2000. Five years later he landed in Nelson and completed Selkirk’s Recreation, Fish & Wildlife program. Following this, Steven worked as a Student Conservation Officer in Cranbrook for eight months. He then moved on to Campbell River where he worked as a Biological Technician for two years. After completion of his GIS degree he hopes to apply his new skills in resource management. In his spare time Steven is an avid mountain biker and has recently taken up fly fishing.
Trevor Campbell ~ 2011 Selkirk Grad
Has a keen interest in Cartography and the Geographical sciences. His undergraduate studies include a BSc. in Physical Geography from the University of the Fraser Valley and current pursuits of a Bachelor of Geographic Information Systems from Selkirk College.
