Integrated Environmental Planning
Selirk College’s Nationally Accredited Integrated Environmental Planning Technology Program has earned a reputation for excellence with over ten years of highly satisfied graduates working in environmentally responsible positions throughout Canada, and around the world. The IEPT program is a two year diploma program in environmental planning and technology with a co-op employment option. It emphasizes field skills, features small class sizes, well-equipped labs, excellent student support and an exceptional location amidst British Columbia’s Selkirk and Monashee mountains.
Our program is appropriate for those seeking careers as environmental technologists, as an entry into post secondary education, or as a complement to other post secondary education or work experience. Our graduates generally move directly into the environmental workforce or transfer into the third year of selected university environmental science and related degree programs.
Each IEPT applicant is unique. Some have post-secondary experience, others possess work experience or come directly from high school. Our students are energetic and motivated. They come to Selkirk seeking fulfilling positions in environmental technology, planning, protection, restoration, education, sustainability, and geomatics.
The IEPT program has four core disciplines: applied ecology and microbiology; environmental chemistry and hydrology; geographic information systems, and land use and environmental planning. Foundational courses in technical writing, technical math, resource statistics; and computer applications underlie our programming.
A primary strength of the IEPT program is its consolidation of the four core disciplines in the Environmental Planning courses. Every year, IEPT students undertake a community planning project complete with scoping, public consultation, and presentation to community members and planning authorities. Through this collaborative experience, students reinforce and integrate their skills and knowledge into a coherent whole.
A second strength of the IEPT program is its high level of applied GIS training. Selkirk College is recognized as a leader in GIS training and research. IEPT students complete a challenging sequence of GIS courses.
