Land Management

Field School and Student Work Contracts

The School of Renewable Resources has undertaken annual planting and spacing contracts since 1969. To date over 800,000 seedlings have been planted and 500 hectares of forest stands thinned. Other student work contracts recently completed includes: trail construction and maintenance, site remediation, silviculture surveying, and growth and yield, surveys. Clients include: Ministry of Forests (Kootenay Lake, Arrow, Boundary, Invermere, Nelson Region), BC Hydro, Atco Lumber, Celgar Pulp, CBFWCF, CBT, and the CPC. Money from these contracts goes toward the second year students coast field trips.

Forest Resource Development Agreement - Small Private Lands
The School of Renewable Resources procured and managed a $50,000 contract to manage the college's private lands. The contract funded tree planting, mapping, trail construction, and tree regeneration experiments. RRS students completed the work and theRRS Club received some of the money for club activities.
