Chemistry - Associate of Science Degree
2-Year Associate of Science Degree at Castlegar
Program Objectives
This program is for students who are interested in obtaining a bachelor's degree in chemistry by completing their first two full years at Selkirk College. The courses in the detailed list below have been chosen to allow students to transfer into third-year chemistry at UBC, UVic, SFU and UNBC and to complete a BSc (Chem) within an overall total of four years.
Program Requirements
To earn an Associate of Science Degree - Chemistry, a student must:
- Select a two-year program of study in consultation with a Selkirk College counsellor. You may make an appointment by calling the Counseling Office at 1.888.953.1133, ext. 273.
- Fulfill all the requirements for a General Associate of Science degree.
- Have earned an overall grade of "C" or better in each course (cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on a four point scale) calculated on all the courses counting towards the Associate Degree requirements.
Admission Requirements
Admission to the Associate of Science degree in Chemistry program requires the completion of Biology 12, Chemistry 11, English 12, Physics 11 with a grade of "C" or higher, and Principles of Math 12 with a grade of “C+” or higher. Physics 12 is recommended, and Chemistry 12 is STRONGLY recommended.
Approximate Expenses
Total program expenses are comprised of both College fees and Program Specific Fees. For planning your stay at Selkirk College, it is advised that both of these be considered. These figures represent College fees only. For more information on program specific costs please contact the Program Contact or School Chair of the program.

Notes:
- Courses marked with an asterisk* are not currently offered by the college.
- Calculus-based physics (PHYS 104/105) is required by SFU and UVic. Students are strongly advised to confirm that their choice of physics course satisfies the requirements of the subsequent institution they plan to attend.
- Completion of the program would allow a student to enter the third year of a BSc program in Chemistry at UBC having met all first- and second-year course requirements.
- Students transferring to UVic should plan to take UVic's CHEM 213 immediately after transfer to complete their second-year requirements.
- Upon transfer to SFU, students should plan to take SFU's CHEM 260 to complete their second-year requirements.
- Students transferring to UNBC should plan to take UNBC's CPSC 100 upon transfer to complete their second-year requirements.
- Students are advised to ensure that their course selections will meet the degree requirements of the subsequent institution(s) they plan to attend.
