University Programs in Peace Studies
The Mir Centre offers unique programs in Canadian peace studies. The School of University Arts and Sciences and the Mir Centre for Peace offer two interdisciplinary values-based university transferable programs in Peace Studies. Both programs combine coursework in humanities, social sciences and sciences with core courses in peace studies and conflict resolution.
- The Associate of Arts Degree in Peace Studies focuses on peace and the environment.
- The Liberal Arts Diploma in Peace Studies emphasizes peace in a cultural and international context.
As part of their program, students may choose to engage in service learning experiences, or in directed peace and conflict studies academic research.
The Mir Story
For Selkirk College, the story of this land and the Mir Centre for Peace begins in 1966 when the site and buildings were inherited by the College. The story of this magnificent piece of land and the people who have lived there stretches back for centuries.
Today, the Mir Centre for Peace at Selkirk College is the focal point for many activities, all of which build on the Centre’s inspiring statement of mission: “To understand and build cultures of peace through learning.”
