Housing Resources
Housing in the Columbia Basin and Boundary Region
Following are reports, data files and presentations related to housing and related affordability issues in the Columbia Basin and Boundary Region. This material has been created with the generous support of the Real Estate Foundation of BC, the Columbia Basin Trust and the BC Alberta Research Alliance for the Social Economy. Thanks also to Andy Dhillon, a Selkirk College graduate now at Simon Fraser University. The assessment data analysis and reports are largely the result of his skills and effort.
These files are in Excel 2007 format to allow you to retrieve and use any of the data. If you have problems accessing this data because of incompatible software, contact us and we will provide you with what is needed.

Data Files
Statistics Canada is a valuable source of Census information on population, housing and incomes. Although much of this data is available through BC Stats and Statistics Canada, it is scattered throughout several web sites and files. We have assembled and organized this data for each Municipality and Electoral Area in the region. Although we have attempted to make sure that we have accurately transferred the data, there may still be some errors. If you find inconsistencies, or have questions, please contact us.

Assessment Roll Analysis and Reports
Data from the 2001 and 2008 assessment rolls was used to both inventory types of residential and other titles and uses, but also to compare values and location of ownership. Mailing addresses for tax notification was used as the indicator of the location of residency of owners. If the mailing address was outside of the area being considered, that property was considered as owned by a non resident. That method of evaluation was used at all three scales - i.e., local areas, Regional Districts and the Columbia Basin Trust regions so the total number of non-resident owners for all local areas will be greater than for Regional Districts or the Columbia Basin Trust.
