Whitebark Pine Conservation and Restoration
SGRC Lead Researcher: Brendan Wilson
For the past number of years Brendan Wilson has worked with Parks Canada on the conservation and restoration of whitebark pine in the Canadian Rockies. This work looks at a number of different goals, including developing an inventory of the species in the Rockies, monitoring the effects of prescribed burning on whitebark pine ecosystems, identifying phenotypically resistant whitebark pine seed sources on the landscape, developing spatial tools to prioritise restoration efforts, and writing both a Province of Alberta and (co-writing) a COSEWIC status assessment for the species. See Brendan's bio for links to reports.
