Located in the library at the Castlegar Campus, Selkirk College's Writing Centre is available, free of charge, to all students enrolled in University Transfer courses or the Nursing program.
The Writing Centre
When writers read their own work, they never see what an ‘outside’ reader does. The actual words on the page are so deeply blended with the authors' knowledge of their subject, their memories of writing and rewriting, and their good intentions and unwritten assumptions that it’s almost fair to call reading one’s own work an act of remembering. Given this, obtaining objective feedback on one’s writing before submitting it for marking is essential. Without feedback, it’s almost impossible for the writer to know how well they are succeeding in producing the desired effect: comprehension, wonder, laughter, amazement, etc.
This is why Selkirk College offers its University Transfer and Nursing students The Writing Centre as a free resource. Students of all different levels of writing ability regularly report higher grades and greater confidence in the composition process after using the Writing Centre’s services. Whether you need help polishing your masterpiece or a deadline is looming and you just can't seem to get started, the Writing Centre is an option well worth exploring.
