Computerized Placement Test (CPT)

The Computerized Placement Test (CPT) is required of all students who have applied  to Selkirk College. It provides a basis for advising students on appropriate program or course choices, thereby increasing their chances of success.

Please note that completion of the CPT is just one of the application requirements. You must complete all the required program prerequisites before being accepted into a program of study.

Please sign up for a session. Choose a campus and date that works best for you.

Distance Option for CPT

If you live outside the local area, you can write the CPT online.

First, you need to find someone who is willing to supervise your test - a school/college counsellor, teacher, librarian, or someone in a supervisory position (friends or relatives are not considered appropriate supervisors). Also, we do not send instructions to hotmail or yahoo addresses.

When you have found a suitable supervisor, you should e-mail cpt@selkirk.ca with their name, position, phone number and e-mail address. Log-in instructions will then be e-mailed to your supervisor, and you can arrange to write the test at a time that is convenient. Your invigilator does not need to be with you the entire time - just to make sure you are not using a calculator, etc.

There are some students who may be exempt from the CPT.  If you have taken English 12 or Math 12 within the last two years and received a grade of B or better OR if you have credit for a post-secondary English or math course (taken within the last two years) and received a B or better, please contact Coordinator of CPT & Exam Invigilation Services at 250-365-1313 or cpt@selkirk.ca to discuss a possible exemption.  Note:  This must be formally discussed, approved and documented to satisfy admissions requirements.

Students applying for the Aviation, Pharmacy Technician or Business Administration Program are not eligible for CPT exemptions.

Selkirk Exams (Internal)

Exam invigilation services are available for Selkirk College students and students from other institutions.

If you are registered in a Distance Education course through Selkirk College, you will probably need to have invigilated exams. You should arrange an invigilator early in the semester as it is not always possible to accommodate all requests. For PsychologyNursing Unit Clerk, MTAT and Pharmacy Technician please register for your exam session by clicking on the links. For all other internal exam requests, please contact the CPT and Exam Invigilation Coordinator.

Typing Tests are available on the Castlegar, Nelson and Trail campuses and may be taken at any NUC testing session. Just view our dates and room numbers then select the date and campus that suits your schedule and submit.

Once your request is received, you will be registered for that test session. You will not receive confirmation. Unless we contact you directly to inform you otherwise, please attend the session you have registered for. If you need to change the date, you may do so on the online form.

External Exams

Students attending institutions other than Selkirk College may access invigilation services. Students wishing to write an external exam may attend the following scheduled exam sittings.

Other arrangements may be made by special request.  Please note, there is a fee for external invigilation services.

Invigilation forms may be faxed to the CPT and Exam Invigilation Coordinator @ 250-365-6568 or emailed to exams@selkirk.ca.
