Distance Computerized Placement Testing

The Computerized Placement Test CPT http://selkirk.ca/services/sas/cptandexaminvigilationservices/localcptsessions/ is required of all students Selkirk College applicants. It provides a basis for advising students on appropriate program or course choices, thereby increasing their chances of success.

If you have applied to Sekirk College and have a Selkirk student number and  live outside the local area, you can write the CPT online.  Please note the following instructions:

You need to find someone who is willing to supervise your test. Ideally it is a school / college counsellor, teacher, librarian, or someone in a supervisory position. In other words - not your friend or a relative.  Also, for the purposes of invigilation we do not to send instructions to hotmail, yahoo or similar addresses.

Once someone has agreed to be your supervisor, you should e-mail CPT with their name, position, phone number and e-mail address. The log-in instructions will then be sent to your supervisor, and you can write the test whenever it is convenient. Your invigilator does not need to be with you the entire time - just to make sure you are not using a calculator, etc.

You will need access to the Internet for approximately 1.5 – 3 hours. (The test is not timed). You cannot use a calculator; however, in some sections of the math, the program will provide you with an on-screen calculator (it will either pop up on the screen or you will see an icon in the lower left corner) – you can use this feature on those questions.

There are some students who may be exempt from the CPT.  If you have taken English 12 or Math 12 within the last two years and received a grade of B or better OR if you have credit for a post-secondary English or math course (taken within the last three years) and received a B or better, please contact Coordinator of CPT & Invigilation Services at 250-365-1313 or cpt@selkirk.ca to discuss a possible exemption.  Note:  This must be formally discussed, approved and documented to satisfy admissions requirements.

Students applying for the Aviation, Pharmacy Technician or Business Administration Program are not eligible for CPT exemptions
