Geothermal Installation
In order to meet the first March spending deadline, Selkirk College partnered with Nelson Hydro to install a geothermal heating system for the dorm. This was to begin immediately and would be separate from the design-build contract to renovate the building.
Nelson Hydro had already undertaken a feasibility study of various types of district heating systems and so they were able to start quickly on this portion of the project. The city retained Reinbold Engineering to complete the design and specifications. Thorman Drilling was awarded the contract for installation of the vertical wells and ground loop systems and Andy Boolinoff was hired to manage the site works. Alex Love of Nelson Hydro is overseeing the completion of the system and Nelson Hydro will conduct the operation and maintenance once the system is up and running.
