I am an acting recruitment officer and graduate student at UVic working on my master’s in the Faculty of Engineering’s Department of Computer Science. I will continue on to complete the PhD program. But there is something more important about acting as a recruitment officer for UVic: I am an alumnus of Selkirk College.
In the early ‘90s I attended the School of University Arts and Sciences (UAS) at Selkirk for two years, not quite sure of my future. In 2004, I returned knowing what my calling was—computer science. One of my instructors, Per Joensen, was a huge influence and motivator for me, so I was only too happy to return to Selkirk as part of UVic’s strategy to recruit students after they finished their UAS program at Selkirk. I was eager to share my experience with students and visit Per.
I am married and currently living in Victoria. My plans are teaching after I have finished my studies. My master’s is partially funded through assistance from research work and grants. I am also the recipient of the University of Victoria Fellowship award and a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Undergrad Student Research Award as an undergrad.
