I chose to attend Selkirk College because I wasn’t sure of what field of study I wanted to pursue. I enrolled in the Social Service Worker program and I discovered that I had a passion for the field.
Selkirk College offers a variety of programs/courses in many diverse areas of study that allow people determine what they like and don’t like as to help in the career decision-making process.
I am currently completing my fourth year of the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program through the University of Victoria (UVIC). I am in the midst of completing my fourth year practicum and I am working as a casual outreach support worker for the local health authority. This job requires patience and a gentle touch in supporting people who are experiencing a mental health/substance use crisis.
After I obtain my BSW I plan on working full time as well as pursing a Master in Social Work (MSW) part-time; I plan on applying for my MSW this fall, though, with my BSW I plan on working in the mental health and substance use field.
