Columbia Basin Trust Bursary
The Trust was created in 1995 to support efforts by the people of the Basin to create a legacy of social, economic and environmental well-being in the Canadian portion of the Columbia River Basin — the region most affected by the Columbia River Treaty (CRT).
The Columbia Basin Trust Bursary is included with the Selkirk College Bursary applications.
Note: Students do not apply separately for the Columbia Basin Trust Bursary.
Who qualifies?
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have protected person status.
- Must have resided in the Columbia Basin area for a minimum of three years.
- Enrolment in a post-secondary semester program - must complete the Fall and Winter semesters maintaining a minimum 60% course load. *
- Enrolment in a post-secondary trades programs - must maintain a minimum 60% course load during their program.*
- Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 = “C” grade.
* Students with a documented disability must maintain a minimum 40% course load and be registered with the Accessibility Services office at Selkirk College.

Bursary applications open September 15 and close October 31.

Application Steps
- Apply for bursaries during application period.

Applicants will be required to answer questions regarding the following:
- Sources of income
- Student loan and/or bank loan information
- Family size
- Number of dependents
- Living arrangements, etc.
What happens next?
- Award recipients will be notified by letter by the end of December.
- Students will be offered an opportunity to attend the Bursary Tea event, held the first Saturday in February, to meet their donor and receive their funds.
- Students who received awards will be asked to complete a Thank You letter to their donor.
How will funds be released?
- After the third week of January, Financial Aid will confirm that students are in the required minimum 60% course load (40% for students with a documented disability) and have met the minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 = “C” grade. Students who do not meet the minimum requirements will not be eligible to receive their award.
- Bursary cheques will be prepared for the Bursary Tea event held the first Saturday in February.
- Students have the option to attend the Bursary Tea event to meet their donor and receive their award – or – after the event the cheques will be available for pick up from the Financial Aid office.
Thank You Letters
Bursary awards have been made possible through the generous support of people and organizations who donate to Selkirk College. Award winners are asked to write a short ‘Thank You’ letter to their donors using our online Thank You form. This gesture is greatly appreciated by those who work with Selkirk College to support students in reaching their educational goals.

If I drop below a 60% course load will I still be eligible for my Bursary award?
- To maintain eligibility for your Bursary award you must be in a minimum 60% course load for the Fall and Winter semesters - or - for Trades programs a minimum 60% course load for the duration of the program. Students with a documented disability are eligible to study at a 40% course load and must be registered with the Accessibility Office at Selkirk College.
