Hi! My name is Marita and I am passionate about living a healthy lifestyle and encouraging others to do the same! I work full-time at Selkirk College as a Student & Campus Life Programmer, planning sports and recreational events for students, staff, and the community. I also own a fitness and nutrition company that I do part-time, on the side. I've built a website to provide online exercise/nutrition programs and 28-day challenges, and provide personal training as well. In my spare time, I love hiking, running, biking, x-country skiing, snowshoeing, and playing tennis, golf, and volleyball. I also really enjoy relaxing and socializing with friends and family.
I am a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (200hr) and CFES Certified Group Fitness Instructor who has recently graduated college majoring in Physical Education & Coaching. I enjoy teaching others to learn more about their body through movement education, mindfulness and multi-dimensional wellness. When I’m not teaching, my time is spent exploring the outdoors with my St. Bernard puppy, cooking vegetarian meals and learning about traditional medicine.
I have been teaching weekly Yoga classes in Nelson since 2010. My journey in the healing arts has paralleled my exploration of the mind body connection through Yoga asana and Vipassana meditation in Canada and India. In 2010, I completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training inspired by the Iyengar method under the guidance of Hart Lazer at United Yoga Montreal.
My Yoga classes weave together an exploration of postural alignment, breath awareness, and heart-centered meditation. I offer dynamic Hatha Yoga and relaxing Restorative Yoga classes, accessible to all levels. I am also a BC registered Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine offering services in Acupuncture, Herbology, Tuning Forks, and Massage. I love to dance and enjoy hiking in the pristine beauty of the Kootenays!
Jackie is a Certified Les Mills Body Pump and SoulBody Fitness Global instructor who specializes in Barre, Restore, and Yoga Sculpt. She has six years of experience teaching and in her spare time enjoys hiking, paddle boarding, watching movies, and being around family and friends. She is originally from Edmonton, Alberta.
