Composition major Duncan Shury will perform a funk/blues set.
Duncan Shury (aka Alabaster Slim) came to Nelson from Saskatoon, SK for his first year in 2019, and after three years of study is set to graduate from the composition major this April.
Post-graduation he will be well-equipped with an intimate knowledge of vocals, guitar and bass; as well as an in-depth understanding of common composition and songwriting methods to fuel his journey of writing and performing their own music.
Following the inspiration from his SK band Chesterfield, Duncan is pursuing the path of creating original, high- energy music that aims to get the audience both laughing and dancing.
The rambunctious combo of funk, blues and straight-ahead rock and roll is offset by softer jazz and indie inspired tonalities that are inspired by artists such as: Masayoshi Takanaka, Led Zeppelin, Electric Light Orchestra and Ween.
Duncan’s showcase aims to be a fun experience for all involved, so be sure to expect camaraderie from the band until the curtains close.
The Showcase 2022 concert series is open to the entire community.
