Join Selkirk College in marking and celebrating International Women’s Day across the globe.
With roots that date back to 1911, International Women's Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.

At Selkirk College, inspiring women in every school and every department are contributing immensely to the institution’s vision of building confident and imaginative learners ready to thrive in our communities and dynamic world.
This year’s theme is #ChooseToChallenge and Selkirk College is joining post-secondary institutions across Canada by raising our hands in unity in the days leading up and on March 8.
A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day. We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.
Please join us in raising awareness, engaging in discussion and participate by:
- Take a photo of yourself with your hand up high to show your support in celebrating women's achievements
- Share the photo to your social media using the hashtags: #IWD2021 #ChooseToChallenge #selkirkcollege
- Selkirk College will share your photos on Monday, March 8th in celebration of International Women's Day and you'll be entered to win a $50 gift card to the bookstore!
