Human Services Diploma: Early Childhood Care and Education
Graduates of the Early Childhood Care and Education Diploma are prepared to work with young children and their families in a variety of exciting and rewarding roles. In response to emerging changes to early care and learning in the province of BC, the program prepares graduates to work in early year centers, family childcare, and school age support. Graduates can expect to be able to work with with children ranging in ages from infant through to school-age..
The program offers students learning and opportunities for growth in theory and practice settings. The program also provides opportunity for transfer to other University partners.
Graduates of the program will be eligible to receive a Licence to Practice as an Infant/Toddler Caregiver in BC. The program plans to offer an advanced certificate in Special Needs on alternating years as well.
The ECCE Diploma Program has embedded in it the Advanced Certificate for Infant and Toddlers that was offered this year, 2011-2012. The following year we will be alternating the Advanced Certificate with the Supported Child Development Advanced Certificate. This will also be embedded in the Diploma Program in 2012-2013. Each year these specialty courses will alternate, you can take the specialized courses on their own and receive the Advanced Certificate, or you can include one set of these as part of your Diploma Program.
