This comprehensive program consists of five courses designed to build a strong foundation in the Refrigeration Operator stream of Power Engineering, as regulated by Technical Safety BC. Each course includes engaging videos, readings, assignments, and an exam to reinforce learning. By completing all five parts, students will gain the essential knowledge and skills required to pursue Refrigeration Operator Certification in British Columbia.
Part 1 is designed to provide information and to introduce you to many aspects of legislation, basic mechanics, thermodynamics and heat, plant safety, industrial piping system design and purpose, foundations of blueprints and effective communication.
Part 2 is designed to provide information and to introduce you to welding and pressure-vessel welding inspection processes, fundamentals of electricity, DC and AC motors, pumps and compressors, cooling and condenser towers, lubrication and bearings.
Part 3 is designed to provide information and to introduce you to refrigeration fundamentals, HVAC fundamentals, environment systems, and WHMIS.
Part 4 is designed to meet the practical lab exercise requirements to meet the practical qualifying experience as described in the BC Power Engineers, Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Refrigeration Safety Regulation (TSBC).
Part 5 contains the final exam, which covers all 5 parts of the Core Skills for Refrigeration Occupations. This course provides a review of parts 1–5, a practice exam and the final exam.
This program is recognized as an approved refrigeration operator course by Technical Safety BC. Successful completion meets one of the key requirements for applying for your Refrigeration Operator Certificate. After successfully completing the course, students are responsible for contacting Technical SafetyBC directly to schedule the certification exam.

Students have 7 months from the time of registration to complete the online course. There are approximately 120 hours of coursework to complete the course, including a practical lab and required exams. If necessary, a two-month extension can be granted for an additional charge.

Meet the Instructor
Jason Craig has been involved in recreation facility operation and maintenance for the past 20 years. He has hands-on, real-world experience in all facets of facility custodial, repair and maintenance. Jason comes with a wealth of knowledge in working with regulatory bodies and is well versed in fire safety, WHMIS and safe work practices. Jason also brings to the program years of project management experience, from small equipment repairs and replacement to large-scale facility upgrades and replacements.
Online Courses, Continuous Intake
This course includes all five parts. Students are provided seven months from the time of registration to complete the course. Upon registration, the instructor will contact students to provide a link and access key to the course. Online courses are not refundable. Tuition for online courses is non-refundable or transferable.
