Through research-focused community partnerships, Selkirk College’s Applied Research & Innovation Centre supports economic development, regional collaboration, social innovation, technology adoption, and rural capacity building.
The Applied Research & Innovation Centre houses the Office of Applied Research & Innovation, the Selkirk Geospatial Research Centre, the Columbia Basin Rural Development Institute, the BC Regional Innovation Chair in Rural Economic Development, and the Advanced Diploma in GIS and Bachelor of GIS programs. It also supports Selkirk College's advanced manufacturing research, various funding programs including SMARTS and TeckServ, and research done by students and instructors.

Selkirk College acknowledges funding received from the Government of Canada's Research Support Fund. The Research Support Fund supports indirect costs of research, including salaries for administrative staff, training costs for health and safety, as well as the development and promotion of equity, diversity and inclusion practices, costs related to the maintenance of libraries and laboratories, and administrative costs associated with getting a patent for the invention. Selkirk College utilizes 100 per cent of the annual Research Support Fund grant for the management and administration of the institution's research enterprise.
